Jeeva’s last movie, “Black,” personally impressed me a lot. The content made me go, “Wow! What a film!” That’s why I was quite excited about his next film, “Aghathiyaa.”
So, what was my experience watching this movie? Let’s talk about it.
Storyline
“Aghathiyaa“ is a horror-comedy about a mansion that was once meant to be a film set. A movie was supposed to be shot there, but for some reason, it was never completed. Over time, the mansion was turned into a haunted house. What happens next? Well, you’ll have to watch the film to find out!
The movie is available in Hindi and runs for 2 hours and 9 minutes.
Quick Review – Is Aghathiyaa Worth Watching?
If I were to sum it up in one line, I’d say: “Not a bad movie. It’s a decent watch.”
Most horror comedies (except for the Stree Universe) often suffer from cringe-worthy humor, lack of real horror, and dull storytelling. But Aghathiyaa does a better job. The story has elements that hold your interest, and the film avoids unnecessary cringe humor, which is usually forced in such films.
However, to be honest, the comedy isn’t extraordinary either. It’s decent at best. The good thing is that the film doesn’t ruin its serious moments by randomly inserting comedy, which is a relief.
As for horror, it’s not something that will terrify you, so keep that in mind.
What Works in Aghathiyaa?
One strong point of the movie is its message and representation of Indian culture. The way Ayurveda is discussed in the film makes you feel proud. It’s refreshing to see our traditions being portrayed in a meaningful way.
However, if the screenplay had been a bit stronger, Aghathiyaa could have been an outstanding film.
That said, you won’t feel like your time has been wasted while watching it.
Acting Performances
- Jeeva looks good on screen.
- Raashii Khanna delivers a solid performance.
- The supporting cast does a decent job.
- Arjun Sarja, especially in flashback scenes, is really impressive.
- Yogi Babu, unfortunately, felt wasted. I mean, if you cast Yogi Babu, use him properly! Don’t just include him for a couple of random scenes.
Negatives – What Doesn’t Work?
- Poor CGI – The visual effects feel artificial and fake, which reduces the impact of the horror elements.
- Predictable Climax – I guessed the climax twist way before it happened. It lacked the surprise factor.
- Unnecessary Romance Track – The romantic subplot felt forced and underwhelming.
- Disruptive Songs – The songs break the flow of the movie. Honestly, the film would have been better without them.
Final Verdict – Should You Watch Aghathiyaa?
Overall, I’d rate Aghathiyaa 6.5/10.
If you’re looking for a time-pass horror comedy, it’s watchable. There are some engaging moments, a cultural touch, and decent performances, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking.

- Hindi dubbing is good.
- Some horror elements, but nothing too intense.
