Azaad Movie Review: A Unique Tale of Friendship, Loyalty, and Horse Racing”

I went to watch the movie in the theater. The new, fresh film Azaad, which has a totally unique topic, starring Ajay Devgn and the new pair Rasha Thadani and Aman Devgn, and most importantly, a horse. So, how is this movie? Let’s talk about it.

First of all, let me tell you, this film is made by Abhishek Kapoor, whose previous films were loved by people, like Kedarnath, Kai Po Che, and Rock On, an extremely well-made musical film. Abhishek Kapoor’s direction is very unique, and when the concept is also unique, it creates something special, and the concept of Azaad is also quite unique. It features Azaad, a horse, who is Vikram Singh’s (played by Ajay Devgn) prized horse, and a new stable worker named Govind (played by Aman Devgn) wants to tame it and ride it.

In between, there’s an important character, and Govind’s love interest is Janaki (played by Rasha Thadani), and I must say, after a long time, there’s a pair whose acting skills show a bright future ahead. Precise acting, no over-drama. The film is set in the 1920s, which makes it a period film, so the music and BGM of that era are mixed very well, and I love Amit Trivedi’s music.

Those who know, know that his music blends perfectly with the retro and period feel of this movie. The main hero of the film is the horse. I mean, just look at how well-trained it is, which is why the horse also performs very well in terms of expressions. The chemistry between Azaad and Aman Devgn is amazing, even better than some hero-heroine chemistry. Along with the chemistry, there’s some light situational comedy, and the public in the theater was really enjoying it.

Now, talking about the story, where it connects its unique core element, the climax is the best. The horse race scene, bro, in the end, it was like what happened in Lagaan, that last ball, an unexpected six moment. I mean, the edge-of-the-seat experience you’ll get from that climax.

Although it was a little predictable, knowing it, you’ll still enjoy that moment due to the presentation. After a long time, we’ve seen an animal and human emotional bonding in a movie, showing friendship and loyalty through emotions. Though it’s tough to show, director Abhishek Kapoor made it look effortless and presented totally family-friendly, light-hearted content that you can watch comfortably with your friends, family, or even kids.

Yes, Ajay Devgn has an important role, but it’s just till the first half; you can call it an extended cameo. After the first half, there’s a twist, and from there, the emotional journey of human and animal unfolds, which you’ll surely enjoy on the big screen. Even the way real set locations of mountains and sandy areas are shown, it maintains the authenticity of the film and gives the feel that you’re watching a raw film, not one filled with VFX.

So overall, my experience was really good with this film. My expectations were more than what I had, I wasn’t expecting this much, but it blew my mind, and here, the shows are also running houseful due to positive word-of-mouth. So, for its direction, new concept, and presentation, I easily give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. See you in the next post. Bye!”
